  • When a ship owner desires to repair ships by means of welding, etc. that applies flame or heating, within the boundaries of an open port, a ship owner or a ship owner’s proxy shall ask for permission from the administrator of the competent regional maritime affairs and port office

Target A ship of 20 gross tonnage or more is repaired in different places expect dangerous areas within the ship - Dangerous material loading or carrying vessel
- When repair work by means of welding, etc. that applies flame or heating is carried out in a dangerous area within the ship
Work zone - General areas out of danger zones
- Upper deck, handrail, seawater pipe, head ledge, bow and stern winch, cell guide, mast, places being able to see outside, such as inside a hold (in case of an open hatch cover)
- Engine room of vessel, danger zones on board the ship like fuel tanks, lubricating-oil tanks, cofferdams, workshops, paint lockers, storages for flammable liquid, enclosed vehicle zones)
※ About enclosed space : In a broader term, every place in vessels enclosed by cells and bulkheads
Required documents 1.Two copies of registration for in-port vessel repair : Applicants & Declaration - Enter ship owners or ship owner’s agents
2. Two copies of welder certificate

2.Two copies of work plans : a detailed work plan is needed
3.Two copies of welder certificate
※ Attachment of Gas Free Certificate : cargo vessels carrying dangers, oil tankers, tank ships, etc.

Notice for vessel repair registration

  • The applicants may be ship owners or ship owner’s agents, and personal information of the owner and official seal & signature are required. (Repairers cannot be an applicant.)
  • Necessary to hold a Craftsman Welding referred to the National Technical Qualifications Act, or a Welder Certificate authorized by the Korean Register of Shipping for Vessel repair registration or permission
  • No repairs are allowed for vessels carrying dangers (oil tankers, gas carriers, chemical tankers)
  • Repairs are not allowed for vessels deemed to be located near hazardous material facilities like Oil Dolphin
  • No repairs in bad weather or at night are allowed.
  • Thorough management of repair safety around danger zones like engine rooms or fuel tanks
  • Necessary to deploy a safety supervisor, install danger signs and equip fire apparatus on site
